What to expect: First day

Group Therapy:

Group therapy forms the foundation of our PHP and IOP programs. These sessions are designed to enhance your understanding of your symptoms, provide a supportive environment for sharing experiences with others facing similar challenges, and strengthen your abilities to manage daily life effectively.

Many participants find group therapy to be a valuable and supportive aspect of their recovery journey. We encourage you to engage fully and openly. While we promote sharing and support within the group, we advise against developing relationships outside of the program groups until after completing the program. This boundary ensures you can focus on your treatment goals and individual needs during your time with us.

Your Treatment Team

Upon admission, you will be assigned a psychiatrist and a clinician, with the entire Kindle Comprehensive PHP/IOP staff comprising your treatment team.

Your clinician, a master’s level therapist, will serve as your primary contact for all treatment-related inquiries. You will meet with both your psychiatrist and clinician within the first two days of the program and regularly throughout your PHP/IOP treatment. PHP participants typically meet with their clinicians once or twice per week, while IOP participants generally meet weekly.

During your initial sessions, your clinician will discuss your personal history and current circumstances to collaboratively establish treatment goals. Your psychiatrist will review your mental health history, current medications, and past psychiatric treatments. Please be prepared to provide this information on your first day.

Settling In

It’s common for participants to feel apprehensive during their initial days in the program, and our staff is here to support you. We encourage you to voice any concerns or questions you may have. While it’s normal to feel uneasy initially, our team is dedicated to helping you adjust to the program and ensuring you receive the necessary support to maximize your experience.

After the initial adjustment period, participants often find themselves settling into the routine and feeling more comfortable attending sessions. Over time, many participants come to appreciate and enjoy their time in the program—we hope you will too.

Psychotherapy and skills groups:

Psychotherapy Group

The aim of this group is to cultivate a mindful and purposeful approach to the day ahead. It starts with a mindfulness exercise, followed by a review of the day’s schedule and skill focus, and a brief structured check-in. After the check-in, there is often time for group discussion on common themes, focusing on using skills to address life challenges.

Skills Groups

Each session is dedicated to learning various therapeutic skills, coping strategies, and concepts to help reduce psychiatric symptoms.

Week in Review, Weekend Planning, and Sustaining Change: The final day of each week often includes discussions and reviews of the skills covered, especially those crucial to your treatment, along with planning for weekend activities and safety, or ongoing efforts to sustain changes made during treatment.

Insurance companies must approve services before they are provided. This process involves our specialized clinical staff who work directly with insurance companies. Sometimes, our physicians need to consult with insurance company physicians to secure continued authorization.

Initial authorization occurs on your first day, with insurance companies typically approving a few days at a time based on your progress. Authorization is an ongoing and time-consuming process, and there are a few important points to consider:

Notifications sent to you about authorized days or responses from your insurance company may not provide the most current information and might not reflect ongoing authorizations.
Sometimes, we may not be able to secure further authorizations even when deemed appropriate. In such cases, you may choose to pay out of pocket for additional days or work with us to conclude your participation.
Please be patient with this process and trust that we are doing our utmost to secure the necessary treatment duration.
