The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) serves individuals with moderate psychiatric symptoms needing increased support while managing personal responsibilities safely. These individuals are typically stepped down from PHP, or stepped up when symptoms persist or worsem despite frequent outpatient care. Sessions are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (excluding holidays) either in the morning (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) or afternoon (1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.), typically lasting six weeks. This flexible schedule allows participants to integrate therapeutic skills into daily life.
Upon admission, each participant is assigned a Psychiatric provider and a primary clinician for evaluation, medication management, supportive counseling, and aftercare planning, with weekly clinician meetings for ongoing support.
Each IOP session features three therapy groups focusing on mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies such as DBT, ACT, and CBT. Participants learn skills for mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to enhance coping and symptom management.
At discharge, most participants show improved symptoms, ready to resume daily activities with support from established outpatient mental health providers. The treatment team assists in finding resources if new providers are needed based on individual needs.
