Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs) offer outpatient mental health services voluntarily, providing an alternative to or transition from inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. It caters to individuals requiring substantial support for symptom management in a structured, safe environment. Sessions run Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding holidays, typically lasting two weeks.
Upon admission, participants receive personalized care from a Psychiatric provider and primary clinician, involving comprehensive evaluation, medication management, supportive counseling, and aftercare planning. Clinician meetings occur once or twice weekly to address treatment needs.
Each treatment day includes four therapy groups with a lunch break, offering mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Participants gain skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to enhance safety, daily functioning, and symptom management.
At discharge, participants may still experience symptoms but possess skills for managing them in less structured environments. Options post-treatment include transitioning to Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) or returning to previous outpatient providers, with assistance from the treatment team in finding suitable resources.
